...and fiber is really good for your gut. In fact, it's a necessity to keep things moving. In today's Veganuary email, one of the topics they touch on is how eating vegan impacts your digestive system. Some people immediately start to feel better, others feel more bloated or gassy at first, but, as our gut adjusts to the new way we're eating things begin to stabilize.
I'll share my story first, which, may be a bit "TMI" but I encourage you to share your digestive stories in the comments too, we're all In this together. After all, everybody poops. 🤷♀️
I have always had a "sensitive stomach" not so much in the can't eat spicy food sensitivity but more in the IBS way (so, sensitive Intestines?) Anyway, before going vegetarian, my stomach hurt on a daily basis and I often felt nervous out in public, at someone's home with only 1 bathroom, and/or not near a bathroom at all. In fact in high school, my parents were concerned that Pepto Bismal had somehow become the new drug of choice because I was going through bottles of it way faster than anyone ever should.
When I went vegetarian my IBS issues calmed a bit, but, when I had days where I ate a lot of cheese, well, Immodium and/or Pepto were still my go-tos and I still needed to check for all available bathrooms. I used to call these episodes "attacks" because that's what it felt like. Out of nowhere my intestines felt like they were pulsing and wrapping around themselves. It was embarrassing, painful, and really affected my quality of life.
Then, I went vegan and the attacks stopped pretty quickly. Now, on the rare occasion that I have an attack it's typically because I ate something really, really oily. Oily things had also been a trigger for me in my pre-veg days too.
Don't take my word for it though, here's some quick info from medical doctor who knows his stuff and who has a team who researches everything! Have a health related question? Visit NutritionFacts.org for evidence based Information.
I remember seeing stickers similar to this image below at the amazing MooShoes store in New York City in the early 2000's, so I thought I would leave you with this 🤣🤣🤣

Very interesting! I don't have many "tummy" issues or should I said I didn't until my gallbladder was removed. I do have diverticulitis but it's manageable. Once my gallbladder left me, I'm finding that milk is not very nice to my tummy and I have to make sure there is a bathroom close by.
I love hearing more about this especially since I've had stomach issues for a while. It took forever for them to figure out I have diverticulitis and fibroids.
(This is Julie Jordan Scott in case that isn't printed in the comment.) I love learning more about veganism and health. I appreciate what you have offered here, as well. So helpful that you lead meditations, also!
